DACHAIGH

'home'

handcrafted concertina book containing pencil drawings and Gaelic text.

30.7 x 56 x 140 cm

"Dachaigh" is a meticulously handcrafted, large-scale concertina book featuring expansive and panoramic abstract drawings of the Scottish wilderness. Intertwined with evocative Gaelic writing, the book explores my journey across the Hebridean islands, delving into the profound theme of homecoming.

The chartreuse colour of the cover was chosen to reflect the vibrant off-green of the heather and fern seen while journeying round the islands, taking inspiration the natural beauty and what was presented to me.

These drawings capture selected elements discovered within the landscapes I encountered during my exploration of Mull and Iona. Characterized by free-flowing marks, they represent an amalgamation of abstraction and reality. While appearing initially spontaneous, upon closer examination and within the context of my broader body of work, their continuity and consideration becomes apparent. Certain shapes and marks are intentionally repeated and modified to suit the thematic demands of each artistic exploration.
